The Washington Nationals will host the Philadelphia Phillies for the MLB Little League Classic this Sunday evening from Nationals Park on ESPN. Philly responded with a nine-run victory in Game two, 12-3.

Phillies Preview & Projected Starter

Philadelphia moved to 67-56 following the win over Washington. The Phillies took over DC with their bats last night, and they’ll look to close strong here with a series victory. The Philly offense is scoring 4.13 runs per game, while batting .254, with a .322 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.98 ERA, with a 1.25 WHIP.

Zack Wheeler (9-5, 3.63 ERA, 160 Ks) will take the bump for Philadelphia. The eleventh-year pitcher had another strong performance last time out in Toronto, holding the Blue Jays to one run through seven innings of work. Wheeler has been very reliable since the start of July, as each of his previous seven appearances have resulted in quality starts. Wheeler gave up four runs in five innings to the Nats in their last matchup, and he’ll attempt to throw a cleaner outing here Sunday.

Phillies Player Trends & Props

Alex Bohm had multiple hits in the Game two win, and he leads Philly in RBI (76), while hitting .283.

Nick Castellanos smashed a three-run shot to get the Phils back into the Game last night, and he’s posting strong splits of .277/21/68.

Bryson Stott also homered and supplied three runs in the massive win, and he’s posting team-leads in batting (.296) and hits (133).

Kyle Schwarber has produced a run in three straight games,  and he’s among league leaders in homers (32), while second on the Phils with 76 RBI.

Bryce Harper has totaled multiple bases in two of the last three games, and he’s batting .294, with 40 RBI through 89 games.

Nationals Preview & Projected Starter

Washington moved to 56-68 after falling to Philadelphia. The Nats couldn’t keep up with the high-powered Phils last night, and they’ll look put up a fight here in primetime.  The Washington offense is scoring 3.48 runs per Game, while batting .262, with a .319 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.96 ERA, with a 1.50 WHIP.

Trevor Williams (5-7, 5.20 ERA, 90 Ks) is set to start for Washington. The eighth-year pitcher did perform well versus Oakland at home last week, giving up five runs in 4.1 innings pitched. Williams has regressed over the second portion of the season, as fatigue has naturally settled in around the league. Williams has allowed five runs or more in each of his last three starts, and he’ll attempt to hold his own against Philly here.

Nats Player Trends & Props

Lane Thomas has multiple hits in three of the previous four games, and he leads the Nats in hits (140), with splits of .287/20/69.

Joey Meneses has scored a run in five of the last six Games, and he’s batting .281, with 69 RBI.

CJ Abrams went yard in the game one victory, and he’s posting a line of .250/12/47.

Corey’s Free Pick

Philly will have the pleasure of turning to their reliable ace Zach Wheeler here, while the Nats are set to send a vulnerable Trevor Williams to the mound, so their are a pair of angles to attack here. The Phillies could very well turn the lights off early for Williams in this one under the lights, so their run line feels like a good spot. With Philadelphia likely to find production off of Williams, targeting the total may give us a bit more security here, in the even the young and feisty Nats fight back as they did on Friday. Bryce Harper and Trea Turner props are always fun in these returns, so give them a look, and back the Over for the MLB Little League Classic.
