The Oakland Athletics will host the Philadelphia Phillies for Game one of their interleague series this Friday from the Oakland Coliseum.

Phillies Betting Preview

Philadelphia moved to 35-34 after taking three of four from Arizona. The Phillies responded well to a one-run defeat in Game one to take the final three and leave the desert above .500. The Philadelphia offense is scoring 4.39 runs per Game, while batting .259, with a .323 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.44 ERA, with a 1.29 WHIP. Nick Castellanos has multiple hits in four of the last five Games, and he leads Philly in batting (.316) and RBI (42). Alex Bohm produced runs in all three Games against Arizona, and he’s tied for the team-lead with 42 RBI. Bryce Harper has plated a run in six of the last eight Games, and he’s hitting .290. Kyle Schwarber leads Philly in homers (18), with 36 RBI.

Taijuan Walker (6-3, 4.67 ERA, 17 Ks) will get the ball for Philadelphia. The eighth-year righty came through with his second straight scoreless outing against the Dodgers last week, silencing them over five innings, while tossing five strikeouts. Walker pitched well during their home stand, but he’ll now look to avenge his road struggles here in Oakland, as he’s allowed three runs or more in his each of last four starts away from Philly.

Athletics Betting Preview

Oakland moved to 19-52 after splitting four Games with Tampa. The Athletics had their seven-Game win streak snapped after dropping the last two Games, and they’ll look to pull off a few more underdogs victories this weekend. The Oakland offense is scoring 3.57 runs per Game, while batting .223, with a .306 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 6.24 ERA, with a 1.59 WHIP. Brent Rooker produced a run in the Game two win over Tampa, and he leads the team in home runs (13) and RBI (38). Esteury Ruiz has collected a hit in seven of the last ten Games, and he’s plated 28 RBI, while batting .256. Ryan Noda also has a hit in seven of the last ten contests, with splits of .250/7/25.

JP Sears (1-3, 4.15 ERA, 65 Ks) will get the call for Oakland. The second-year lefty pitched well again in Milwaukee last week, striking out five in five innings to earn his first victory of the season. Sears had been one of the lone bright spots for the A’s this season, as he hasn’t allowed more than two runs in each of his past six appearances. Three of Sears’ six home outings have resulted in quality starts.

Philadelphia vs Oakland Trends

Philly is 39-31 against the spread this season, with a 35-24-2 O/U record. Oakland is 30-39 ATS this year, with a 21-37-2 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Oakland came back to earth after their best stretch of the season, and while they might have some appeal as underdogs this weekend, Philadelphia comes into the Bay Area with some momentum of their own. The Phillies just swept a division-leading Diamondbacks team, and they have a good chance to finish this road trip strong. The A’s may have a minor advantage with JP Sears set to go, but the star power in Philly is waking up this month, and I like their chances here in Game one. Back Philadelphia for this interleague matchup.
